Benefits of using a dog walker
In our last blog post, we discussed why you might use or need a dog walker. But, what are the benefits for your dog?
1. Experiencing new sounds, smells and sights.
It is so important for dogs to be able to experience new sounds, smells and sights. It engages their curiosity and keeps their minds active. It also allows them to gather information about their surroundings!
Your dog walker may walk your dog in different places to where you normally take them, even walking in the same place but at a different time of day provides a whole new experience!
2. Walks and mental stimulation can prevent destructive behaviours.
If your dog is feeling satisfied after their walks, and come home feeling relaxed, happy and ready to chill, then it lowers the likelihood of destructive behaviours in the home that occur through boredom.
3. Routine.
A lot of dogs thrive off routine, and knowing they have a walk to break up their day can be highly beneficial, it provides them with a regular toilet break and gives them the structure and predictability in knowing they’ll have company and be going for a walk.
4. Benefits your dog's mental & physical health.
Regular walks are beneficial for many reasons. They support your dog in maintaining a healthy weight, which in turn prevents issues such as diabetes and joint problems. Regular walks can improve cardiovascular health and build muscle tone and strength.
They also help your dog’s mental health and wellbeing by providing mental stimulation and enrichment from all the wonderful sights, sounds and smells. Walks also reduce your dog's stress levels and help them burn off energy ready for a big old snooze when they get home!
5. Building new relationships.
It’s highly beneficial for your dog to feel safe and comfortable around other people, having a regular dog walker means they’re able to build a strong, positive relationship with another person. This is great for your dog, but also benefits you. You then have someone who can provide care when you need it for your four legged family member that they trust and feel happy and safe with!
